SVHS Health Professions Club; free blood pressure screenings

Did you know that nearly 50000 Americans are killed by high blood pressure in one year?
The leading cause of death in the United States is heart disease and stroke. High blood pressure sharply increases the risk. Roughly 1 in every 3 American adults has high blood pressure. Hypertension affects 2 in 5 African Americans, 1 in 5 Hispanics and Native Americans and 1 in 6 Asians. For adults high blood pressure is when the systolic pressure is 140mmHg or higher and diastolic pressure 90mmHg or higher.

Do you know your blood pressure? The Health Professions Club is doing free blood pressure screenings during lunch in the Media Center. Come see what your blood pressure reads. While you are there, donate your spare change for the victims of the Japan Tsunami. Meanwhile, in the cafeteria, enter the candy contest for a prize on Friday.
