BlackRock continues its 10th anniversary season with a concert by Washington-based boogie woogie blues artists the Daryl Davis Band, with special guest vocalist Mary Alouette. The performance is part of the “Third Thursdays at the BlackRock Bistro” series. Audience members can enjoy beer, wine and munchies throughout the evening inside BlackRock's Studio Theatre, which will have bistro tables and a dance floor, making the nightclub vibe complete.
Daryl Davis’ influences include legendary pianists Pinetop Perkins and Johnnie Johnson, and he has played with Chuck Berry, Hubert Sumlin, Percy Sledge and many others. Mary Alouette, a bright young talent, is a 2011-12 Artist-in-Residence at Strathmore and will release an EP of gypsy jazz originals in April. Other members of the Daryl Davis Band are Jim Cavanaugh (bass), Rick Thompson(tenor saxophone) and Andy Poxon (guitar).
