Former Seneca Valley Football Star Remembered

Crash victim Dominique Chase, 20, of Gaitehrsburg, was a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.

The Seneca Valley High School community has been mourning the passing of 2008 graduate Dominique Chase, who was struck and killed by a car earlier this week.

Chase, 20, of Gaitehrsburg, was a three-year varsity football player who earned All-County honors during his senior year in 2007.

Seneca Valley head coach Fred Kim described the two-year starter as “tough as nails.”

The 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound inside linebacker helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a 9-3 record during his senior campaign.

“He was a tough, tough linebacker for us,” said Kim. “He stuck his nose in there.”

The 2007 Seneca Valley team also boasted standouts such as Jamaal Martin, Shawn Perry, Aron McDonald and Alex Betancourt but Chase was one of the leaders of the Screaming Eagles defensive unit that season.

“We had a real nice team that year,” Kim recalled.

The Seneca Valley head coach recalled a game against Paint Branch where Chase scored a touchdown after scooping up a fumble.

“We were pretty happy with our victory,” he said.

Jourdan Brooks, a 2007 Seneca Valley graduate, recalled playing with Chase during the 2006 campaign.

“He always brought a lot of energy to the locker room [and the] field,” said Brooks. “He was one heck of a ballplayer.”

At press time, a viewing for Chase was planned for Saturday at Norbeck Community Church in Silver Spring, from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service.

Chase was buried at All Souls Cemetery located on Brink Road in Germantown.
