Germantown Mom Wins $50K While Doing Laundry In Silver Spring
A Germantown mom who played scratch-off tickets to pass the time at a Silver Spring laundromat won $50,000.

GERMANTOWN, MD — A mother of one who decided to pass the time at her local laundromat playing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs left with lots more than clean laundry. The Germantown resident discovered a $50,000 top-prize-winning Deluxe Crossword instant ticket.
The winner and a friend found her lucky scratch-off at Aspen Hill Laundromat in Silver Spring. “I was doing my laundry,” she told lottery officials, adding that her friend joined her to keep her company. They decided to try their luck at the laundromat’s instant ticket vending machine. The winner’s friend has gotten lucky with several winning instant tickets of $300 and $400 in the past, and she enjoys playing crossword scratch-offs but had never won a big prize.
They bought the machine’s last four Deluxe Crossword games and she started scratching them off. The sight of the $50,000 prize on her winning scratch-off left them both speechless.

“There were no words, no words,” said the 32-year-old winner in a news release. In addition, they hesitated to draw attention to themselves at the busy Montgomery County laundromat. “We didn’t want to say anything,” she said. That changed as soon as they got her clothes folded and exited the business. “We felt very excited,” she said.
The manager of a nearby restaurant, the winner brought her friend and her mother with her to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. She plans to spend her winnings on bills.
