Germantown Teacher Selected for National Program

Updated (3:47 p.m.) Roberto Clemente Middle School teacher Krista McKim was selected to participate in the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Summer Teacher Institute, Aug. 8-Aug. 12, in Washington, D.C.
McKim, who teaches English, was nominated by school administrators and was among 150 chosen from a pool of more than 400 of applicants, said Kathleen McGuigan, acting director of educational outreach for the Library of Congress.
Teaching with Primary Sources intensive intends to offer teachers strategies for incorporating primary sources into their curriculums — an endeavor made easier due to access to digitized records online, according to the program’s website.

"It's sort of like looking at a photo from the Civil War versus reading about what it was like in a text book," McGuigan told Patch. "Students get a first-hand account."
