Grab your calendar! Here are this week's best bets for Germantown area families.

This week marks the kickoff for the Montgomery County Public Libraries' children's summer reading program. From the library's webpage, click on the orange summer reading box to sign up.  Looking to get out of the house instead?  Here are Germantown's best bets for families this week:


This week, enjoy Katie Brady the Music Lady. Be sure to bring a blanket and some sun block. Concerts may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Price: $5 per person per activity or $7.50 for a splash & golf combo (one round of golf, all day at the splash playground).

Learn how to cast a line, bait a hook and tie basic knots at this introductory fishing class for families.  Anglers older than 16 years old must possess a valid non-tidal fishing license. Call Ted Manley at 301-963-8788 to learn more and make reservations.

CARS 2 MOVIE EVENT
Kids ages 3 to 8 are invited to enjoy story time and games to celebrate the June 24 release of the new Cars 2 movie.

PRESCHOOL FILM FEST
Enjoy four to six short films based on popular children picture books. This program is designed for children ages 2 to 6, attending with a caregiver. Siblings welcome. No registration necessary.

PASSPORT TO FUN: SWEDEN
Design your own Swedish dolls and flag at this make-it, take-it event for ages 3 and older.  Michaels' Passport to Fun program travels the globe via crafts.

When: ongoing between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 21. The program will be offered through the end of July.

REPTILES ALIVE!
Meet a giant python, alligator, tortoise, monitor lizard and other amazing reptiles at this program for children in grades kindergarten through eight. No registration required.

When: 2 to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 21

KIDS COOKING CLASS
Kids can learn to cook at one of these two classes for children ages 4 to 8.  Space is limited, so sign up at customer service or call 301-258-9500.

When:  5 to 6 p.m. or 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21

Price: $5 per child.
