MAFCU Receives Dora Maxwell Award for "MOOVE Against Hunger" Campaign

Creative Social Media Campaign Recognized for Work Benefitting Manna Food Center and Montgomery County 4-H

Germantown, MarylandMid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union (MAFCU) is the proud recipient of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) 2015 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for its “MOOve Against Hunger” campaign held in June 2015. This award goes to credit unions with exemplary social responsibility projects that prove to have great impact on the community. MAFCU’s “MOOve Against Hunger” was a unique social media campaign that raised over $12,500 to help Gaithersburg-based Manna Food Center combat hunger in Montgomery County. Money raised from this campaign went towards the purchase of three full-size, healthy steer locally grown by young members of Montgomery County 4-H. The three steers, totaling just under 4,000 lbs., were donated to the Manna Food Center, and were used to help feed and nourish approximately 2,000 Montgomery County families in need.

“We are so honored to be recognized with the Dora Maxwell Award for MOOve Against Hunger,” stated Scott Ritter, Senior Vice President and Commercial Credit Manager of MAFCU. “Being able to help nourish our neighbors in need through Manna Food Center and support the Montgomery County 4H Club, two outstanding nonprofit organizations, was a reward in itself. We are thankful to all of those who helped put this campaign together.” Jackie De Carlo, Executive Director at Manna Food Center added, “The generous donation of fresh meat was much appreciated, and Manna Food Center was glad to participate in a social media campaign that helped the wider community get to know our work in fighting hunger.”

This is the fifth time that MAFCU has been recognized by CUNA for its outstanding social responsibility projects.
