Montgomery County Man Charged With Impersonating Police Officer

A Dickerson man was arrested for impersonating a police officer by activating emergency lights on his car.

REDLAND, MD — A 19-year-old Dickerson man was arrested for impersonating a police officer by activating emergency lights on his car and presenting false identification to another police officer, police said. Philip Jonathan Ross, 19, from Old Hundred Road in Dickerson, was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer and traffic citations pertinent to his driving offenses.

At about 4 p.m. June 12, a police commander was driving in her unmarked police vehicle on the Intercounty Connecter (ICC, MD200) when she saw a white Ford Crown Victoria activating its emergency white and red lights. The officer said the Ford was traveling at a high rate of speed and making unsafe lane changes.

The officer conducted a traffic stop of the car at Muncaster Mill Road and Shady Grove Road. As she approached the driver, Ross presented a metal badge and “Special Agent” Identification, police said.

Detectives want to determine if anyone has had a personal encounter with Ross presenting himself as a member of law enforcement. Anyone who believes that they may have had an encounter with the impersonator is asked to call the 6th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5770.
