On Stage | Saturday Night Gospel at BlackRock

'Lift Every Voice, a Holiday Gospel Celebration' opens season of holiday shows

A Saturday night gospel concert will launch a series of holiday-themed shows at BlackRock Center of the Arts.  Vocal quartet EXTOL and vocalists Soloman Howard (bass/baritone) and Nischka Higginbotham (soloist) will be featured at the Germantown arts venue as of “Lift Every Voice, A Holiday Gospel Celebration.”

Saturday’s singers have shared the rafters with some of gospel’s best-known performers — Mary Mary, BeBe Winans and the Clark Sisters, according to the theater. At BlackRock, the performers are expected to produce a family friendly set with few standards — “Come Thou Fount;” “Little Drummer Boy;” “Hallelujah Chorus;” “Jesus What a Wonderful Child” and “Joy to the World” — plus a few surprises.

Holiday concerts continue Friday, Dec. 9, with an acoustic show by Lloyd Dobbler Effect, a local indie-rock band. The National Philharmonic Singers with members of the Washington Symphonic Brass are scheduled to perform Sunday, Dec. 18.
