Scoot for Scooter | 2nd Annual "Scoot for Scooter" 5K & 1Mile Walk/Run fundraiser will honor Germantown resident Steve Gebhardt, who is afflicted with frontotemporal dementia, an early-onset, aggressive form of dementia. A fundraiser for the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, the event is named for Dave "Scooter" Scaggs, 61-year-old FTD sufferer who created a legacy throughout his career as a coach, teacher and mentor.
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 15. Rain or shine.
WHERE: Sherwood High School, 300 Olney Sandy Spring Road, Sandy Spring, Md.
COST: Race fees are $30 for adults; $15 for ages 8 to 18, and free for kids age 7 and younger.

Germantown Historical Society turns 20 | The Germantown Historical Society will celebrate its 20th Anniversary Celebration with a showing of “Life in a War Zone: Montgomery County during the Civil War 1861-1865,” with an introduction by one of the researchers for the film, historian Susan Soderberg. There will be door prizes, refreshments and a 20th anniversary cake.
