Poolesville to Host Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 4
Community Will Gather to Kick-Off the Holiday Season with Food, Games and Charity
Poolesville, Md. – It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The Town of Poolesville invites area residents to its annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. in Whalen Commons, located at 19701 Fisher Avenue in Poolesville. Town officials and community members have an exciting line-up of family-friendly holiday festivities planned for the evening, including a brand new “Cookie Crawl” challenge.
The festivities will include the following:
- A chance to visit Santa’s workshop.
- A ride aboard the “Holiday Express,” for a trip around Whalen Commons.
- Musical and dance performances.
- Amazing ice sculptures created by Joseph Stebbing, area artisan.
- The “Cookie Crawl,” where participants can gather cookies from around town via a wagon ride to win a prize.
“We are pleased to be able to provide the community with an event that is not only fun for adults and families alike, but also gives back to those who are in need,” said Jim Brown, President of the Poolesville Town Commission. “Year after year, Town officials and community volunteers rally to pull together an amazing ceremony that celebrates what the holiday season is all about.”

In order to ensure that the celebration will also benefit area families in need, Poolesville also urges event attendees to bring a new, unwrapped toy to support Western Upper Montgomery County Help, Inc. (WUMCO). The toys will be distributed to local children in need.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, including items such as grilled cheese sandwiches by Java Cruise; homemade soups and sandwiches from the Soup Ladies; and chicken tenders, fries, and nachos from the Fry Guys.
