René Marie Brings ‘Black Lace Freudian Slip’ Tour to BlackRock
Jazz vocalist performs 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.
When jazz vocalist René Marie comes to Germantown, all ears will be on her “Black Lace Freudian Slip.”
Though in this case, it’s jazz styling that will be on display.
Marie’s “Black Lace Freudian Slip” tour — named for her latest release off jazzy indie-label Motéma Music — will breeze through on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Before the 8 p.m. show at BlackRock, Marie will be in Gaithersburg for a private concert at Gaithersburg Community Volunteer Soup Kitchen at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, a coordinator for the soup kitchen told Patch.
The Richmond, Va., native began her professional singing career at age 40 and has since gained acclaim for blending jazz, soul, blues and gospel. “Black Lace” will be her second album for Motéma.

At BlackRock, Marie will be joined by Kevin Bales (piano); Kevin Hamilton; (bass); Quentin Baxter (drums), according to information provided by BlackRock spokeswoman Laurie Levy-Page. This trio recorded on “Black Lace,” which Marie produced with jazz pianist and composer Bruce Barth, according to her label.
