Wife No. 2 Sentenced for Gunning Down Husband's Former Wife

A Nashville, TN, woman will spend life in prison for gunning down the ex-wife of her husband on a Germantown street.

GERMANTOWN, MD — A Nashville, Tennessee, woman convicted, along with her husband of gunning down his ex-wife, has been sentenced to spend the rest of her life in prison. The victim, who was fatally shot in October 2013 as she walked to a Germantown bus stop, was reportedly targeted so her ex-husband would no longer have to pay $2,000 a month in alimony.

Baldeo Taneja, 66, of Nashville, and his wife, Raminder Kaur, 67, were both convicted on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the death of Preeta Paul Gabba, 49, of the 19700 block of Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. Montgomery County Police say Gabba was found in the road suffering from a gunshot wound and she later died at the hospital.

Police said Taneja and Kaur were in Montgomery County on Oct. 11 and Oct. 12, 2013. The couple had purchased two guns in Nashville on Sept. 2, 2013, according to police.

Both suspects were convicted, but Kaur won a new trial, arguing her counsel was ineffective. She was convicted of murder a second time in November 2016, and sentenced Monday to two concurrent life sentences plus five years for her role in Gabba's death, WTOP reports.

Taneja, who was convicted in a joint trial with Kaur, has appealed for a new trial and is waiting a ruling on that request.
