$10K Scratch-Off Win Fills Daughter's College Fund

A Glen Burnie man says his $10,000 lottery win will all go into a savings account for his daughter's college fund.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Surrounded by his co-workers and fellow Maryland Lottery players, a 38-year-old Anne Arundel County husband and father was on the receiving end of one heck of a Lottery shock. The landscaping team enjoys a lunchtime routine of scratching off instant tickets and talking about what each of them would do with their imagined big prize.

That routine was interrupted, happily, by his actual $10,000 scratch-off win on the $10 game. The landscaper told Lottery officials that he grew quiet as he scratched his 50x The Cash ticket in the parking lot outside Southgate Liquors in Glen Burnie.

“I was trying to figure out if what I thought I was seeing was really what I was seeing … if it was real.” His silence apparently caught the attention of his co-workers. They began to gather around him but the crew members were forced to give way as the Glen Burnie resident jumped to his feet.

“I think I startled them,” he admitted. “The need to yell and jump just came over me. I couldn’t help it.”

The winnings from his 50x The Cash scratch-off will go into the family savings account. “Every penny of this is for my daughter’s education,” he said. “It’ll be a big relief to add this to what we’ve saved so far.”
