80-Year-Old Glen Burnie Player Claims $50K Prize

An 80-year-old from Glen Burnie who won $50,000 from the Maryland Lottery says she's saving the money and hoping to win more.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A Glen Burnie Multi-Match and Mega Millions subscriber who rarely plays Maryland Lottery scratch-offs bought a $5 Diamonds & Gold Doubler instant ticket after a sign caught her eye at a local 7-Eleven. Her impulse paid off with a $50,000 top prize win.

“I just walked in and saw the ‘new’ sign on the instant ticket holder and decided to play,” she told Maryland Lottery officials in a news release. “I scratched off the number portion to see if any matched. When I saw the number 19 was a match, I began to scratch off the dollar amount and saw the $50,000! I was surprised, to say the least.”

The 80-year-old won the fourth of eight $50,000 top prizes in the game. There are still winning scratch-offs available with prizes ranging from $5 to $50,000.

When Lottery officials asked what she planned to do with her winnings, the winner said she would save the prize. She hopes to return to Lottery headquarters to claim an even bigger prize next time.

7-Eleven is also a winner. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, the Anne Arundel County store at 705 Greenway Ave. in Glen Burnie will earn a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
