Glen Burnie Man Facing Arson, Attempted Murder Charges After House Fire

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Carmelo Latorre, a 64-year-old Glen Burnie man, was arrested and charged Saturday for a residential fire that officials say was set intentionally.

Authorities with the Anne Arundel County Fire/Arson & Explosives Investigative Bureau said Latorre intentionally ignited a fire inside a home on the 1200 block of Aster Drive.

The fire took place July 21, with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responding to the blaze around 10:30 p.m.

Charging documents reviewed by WMAR 2 News detailed that Latorre was arrested after his girlfriend turned over video that showed him threatening to set her home on fire.

Latorre is accused of placing combustibles on a kitchen stovetop and leaving the home, according to the outlet, which noted that the girlfriend has limited mobility.

Court records show Latorre was charged with the following offenses:

• First- and second-degree attempted murder
• First- and second-degree arson
• Threat of arson
• First- and second-degree assault
• Reckless endangerment

Latorre remains held without bond. His next court appearance has not been scheduled.
