Empire Towers Building Hits Repair Milestone: Report

GLEN BURNIE, MD — The first phase of emergency repair work at the Empire Towers building in Glen Burnie has been completed, according to a report.

An email from the building's owner, which was viewed by CBS Baltimore, states phase one came to a close on Aug. 14 after workers installed 1,500 vertical shoring posts.

As the focus shifts to the project's next steps, the timeline for the second phase could last for at least six weeks. It's during this period that contractors will install horizontal bracing.

The timeline suggests tenants locked out of their offices and barred from retrieving their vehicles won't be able to regain access to the building until late September, so long as no further issues emerge.

The project's milestone comes more than a month after the Glen Burnie building became unstable and was ruled at risk of collapsing on July 9.
