Annapolis Mall, Glen Burnie RadioShacks to Close

The RadioShack store in Westfield Annapolis Mall is one of three of the chain’s stores in the area slated to close as the company goes through bankruptcy.

Texas-based RadioShack filed for bankruptcy on Thursday, while it also announced a deal to sell between 1,500 and 2,400 stores to a mix of companies including Standard General and Sprint, reports Forbes.

The Baltimore Business Journal reports that 15 stores in the Baltimore area -- mostly in strip malls – will close, including the three in the county.

The Anne Arundel area stores targeted for closure are:

• 6653 Governor Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie
• Westfield Annapolis mall
• 901 S. Washington Blvd., Laurel

There is no word on the timeframe for the impending closures.

Out of the company’s estimated 4,000 stores, the Wall Street Journal says1,750 RadioShack stores may remain open as co-branded Sprint stores. But, the rest of the shops will close.
