Are You Ready For Some Football... And So Much More

I am entering my 14 season as the team chiropractor for the Baltimore Ravens, coming off an amazing run to the Super Bowl and an ultimate win. It seems like the season just ended and here we are back into it again.

When I approach this time of year, I know the physical demands on my body increase.  Not only the work that I do with the Ravens and the Terps but the time I spend working on my patients as well, all accumulates.  The better shape I am in going into this part of the year, the less aches and pains for me.

That is the message today.  If you have kids that are playing fall sports, they should be doing things NOW to get ready for the fall season (or should have started a few weeks ago).  I used to think that 2 or 3 a day practices for high school football before the season, was the time to get in shape. WRONG… that is why there were so many other athletes in much better shape than me when the season started, and I was gasping for air after every drill.

Parents also need to be physically prepared before starting anything physical.  Whether it is work or home related, if you know the demands on your body are going to be high, slowly ease into it.

I will lastly leave you with this note, PREVENT DEHYDRATION! Drink water, drink water, drink water… Prevent heat related illnesses as well. More details to follow in upcoming blogs…
