BLOG: Brooklyn Park Block Party Success

Block party bring Brooklyn Park closer together.

On Saturday May 12th, the Arundel Neighborhoods Association held a community block party in Arundel Village located off Church street in Brooklyn Park.  We received donations from members of our community who donated side dishes, a grill, table, coolers, soda, water, ice, their time, and much more!  In addition, Jim from Shoppers of Brooklyn Park provided jumbo hotdogs, plastic ware, plates, soda, and water.  Tony of Shop-Rite in Glen Burnie provided us with hotdog and hamburger buns.

Together we made it happen!  60 hamburgers and more than 100 hotdogs were cooked up for community members.  More than 70 bags of chips, 100 cans of soda, and several cases of water where enjoyed by our community.  Together we served more than 120 people at this event.  None of it could have been done without your help and attendance.

This location was selected due to the obsticals that community members are trying to overcome.  Over the last 12 months a woman was shot 3 times in the face, a man was beaten with a crowbar, a drug house was raided and closed by the police, and a man shot at and missed another person.  Our association wanted to let our neighbors know that we have not forgotten about them and that we care!

During the event County Councilman Pete Smith stopped by with his family and Mark Chang from the County Executives office helped to serve food.  This was a clear reminder that our community has not been forgotten.  Our association thanks everyone who attended and made this possible.
