BLOG: Self-Imposed Limitation
"The conquest lay within my own mind. I had to penetrate those barriers of self-imposed limitation and get through to the good stuff—the stuff called potential, 90 percent of which we rarely use."

Sharon Wood is the first North American woman to climb Mount Everest and the only woman to do so by a new route and without the assistance of the local Sherpa people.
In describing her accomplishment she said, "It wasn't a matter of physical strength but ... inner strength. The conquest lay within my own mind. I had to penetrate those barriers of self-imposed limitation and get through to the good stuff—the stuff called potential, 90 percent of which we rarely use."
Philippians 2:13 Msg says, "That energy is God's energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will bring Him the most pleasure." Often the dream that won't let go of you, and the challenge that consumes you, is God "willing and working" in you to accomplish what is His purpose for your life. If you have the faith to an answer His call, you'll achieve things you never thought possible. What often, holds us back, is what Sharon described as "self-imposed limitation."

Why would we knowingly do that to ourselves? Thomas Edison said, "If we did all the things we were capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves." Don't let your background, your preconceived ideas, your present difficulties, your past failures, your self-doubt or the opinions of others keep you from becoming all that God wants you to be.
Unfortunately, even as followers of God, we can hold back from fulfilling God's purpose for us simply because we do not utilize God's power that is available to us. The children of Israel did that; they "limited" God. "They did not remember His power" Psalm 78:41-42. As a result they died in the wilderness never realizing their dream of the Promised Land.

So, the question is, what is it you are longing to do with your life that perhaps is not making any progress simply because of self-imposed limitations? If you are willing to work with God, you can accomplish anything that is in His will and will ultimately bring Him pleasure. The statement in Luke 1:37 NKJV that says, "With God nothing will be impossible" is not just a nice sentiment, it's the absolute truth! You can do more with your life in partnership with God than on your own.
