Ten Million is less than Zero.

Sometimes I just don’t get how society can be completely misguided and backwards.  It never ceases to amaze me and I guess the more and more I see it I am pushed to just want to disconnect from the world.  Day after day we read about our own very Government pushing to track individuals cell phone locations and nut cases talking about depopulation and mind control. 

[Friday] in Baltimore a few hundred people had a demonstration in front of Constellation Energy.  I didn’t exactly follow the protest 100% but there were two key points that I walked away from when a protestor handed me a leaflet.  The first point was that people did not believe that a CEO should be making $10 million (or more) a year off of a resource that we all need, energy.  The second point seemed to be that if this company merges local jobs will be lost, or maybe it was that if the CEO receives a $10 million salary then jobs are never created because that money is going into some rich guys pocket.  Either way $10 million would create only a handful of jobs and honestly wouldn’t do anything for employment loss should the merger be completed and the new company downsize.

So I did the math and to me it looks like 2 million customers are paying an extra $5 a year on their energy bill, or about $0.42 a month.  Even if my customer numbers are off some I believe you understand the point I’m making.

I then decide to look up another number.  79, the total number of homicides so far in Baltimore City.  158, the total number of parents who lost a child in Baltimore City so far this year from those homicides.  12, the age of a young man that was shot in the chest on Tuesday and died of his gun shot wound on Thursday. 0, the number of protests at the Mayors office for her inability to manage the criminal situation that Baltimore City has.

When I look at the numbers, I’m not sure which ones I should worry more about.  Sometimes those large $10 million numbers don’t look all that big compared to the number zero.
