Walgreens: Spent $14 and saved almost $30! Sale ends May 14th

How did I purchase 2 tubes of toothpaste, 4 bottles of shave gel, a package of panty liners, 2 bottles of toilet bowl cleaner, and a 6 pack of paper towels for $14? Easy!

I had a pretty “extreme” coupon shopping trip to Walgreens on Wednesday.  Extreme for me anyway!  Their sale ends on Saturday, May 14.

I’ve been couponing for only eight months or so.  This was my first time to tackle a sale at Walgreens.  With my large amounts of coupon experience, I was very confident in my projected success.  I already had a stash of coupons stored up.  I also read their Coupon Policy thoroughly prior to my savings adventure.  This is not an adventure I would have done eight months ago as a coupon noob.  :o)  After reading their Coupon Policy, I called the store to verify their lack of doubling of coupons.  As I was approaching the register, I offered for the next lady to go in front of me since I knew I would have two transactions.  She was very polite and said that her transaction would also take a number of minutes and for me to go ahead.  The cashier was very friendly and was not annoyed at splitting my transactions nor at my eight coupons for ten items.  I thanked him for his time and his patience.  I also apologized to the lady in line behind me for the wait.  It really wasn’t that complicated nor did it take very long for him to process the transaction, but it’s still nice to be polite and acknowledge the time of others.  :o)  On to the savings…

Going into the store, I knew by purchasing 2 tubes of Colgate, I would receive a $4 coupon printed at the register for my “next” purchase.  So of course, I split my items into two transactions to make use of the $4 coupon on my "next" purchase.  It just so happens was 5 seconds after I received the coupon!  :o)

Two 4-oz tubes of Colgate toothpaste on sale at $3 each.  I had a $1 off coupon which brought my total to $5.36 including tax.  Plus I received the $4 coupon for my “next” purchase.

I purchased 4 Schick Shave Gel bottles at $4.29 each and Buy One Get One Free - $8.58 savings immediately.  I also had four 75 cent coupons.  Walgreens does not double coupons.  I saved an additional $3 with my four 75 cent coupons.  Instead of paying $17.16, I paid $5.58 for all four bottles or $1.40 per bottle saving $11.58!

I purchased two Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaners at $2.99 each and Buy One Get One Free - $2.99 savings immediately.  I also had a $1 off when buying two.  So I bought two for $1.99 and saved $3.99!

They had Carefree Panty liners on sale for 99 cents and I had a $1.00 or free coupon.  You can do the math on that one!  :o)

They also had Bounty 6 pack of paper towels on sale from $7.99 to $4.99 and I had a $1 off coupon bringing it down to $3.99 with $4 of savings!

So for both transactions, I paid $13.92 for – 2 tubes of toothpaste, 4 bottles of shave gel, 2 bottles of toilet bowl cleaner, one package of feminine products, and a 6 pack of paper towels.  Oh and I used my $10 gift card from when I signed up for my newspaper subscription!  I saved $28.56!

A few hints about Walgreens:  They do not double coupons.  They limit the number of manufacturer coupons to the number of items in your transactions.  So if you have 10 items with 10 manufacture coupons plus the $4 coupon for your “next” purchase – you would have to not use one of your coupons.
