The Anne Arundel County Police Department, which is handling the investigation, said that failing to obey traffic control devices was the cause of the crash.
Witnesses told authorities that the stop arm was down on the far side of the tracks and rail crossing lights were activated; there was no stop arm on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard because there is not supposed to be traffic coming from that direction.
The Maryland Transit Administration Police assisted with the response. According to WBAL, nobody on the light rail was injured.
