Crossing Guard Hit By 'Impatient Driver' While With Kids: Police
A 32-year-old Glen Burnie man hit a crossing guard with his Tesla after he grew impatient with her helping students cross the street.
GLEN BURNIE, MD — A 32-year-old Glen Burnie man has been arrested after he deliberately hit a crossing guard who was helping students walk across the street to school. The incident occurred Thursday at approximately 8:45 a.m. at Shetlands Lane and Tam O Shanter Glen.
According to a police report, the crossing guard was wearing an official uniform including a fluorescent yellow vest with a blinking red light. She stopped traffic on Tam O Shanter Glen to allow three elementary students to cross the street.
But an "impatient" driver later identified as Joseph Hernandez of the 1000 block of Genine Drive assaulted the crossing guard by driving his vehicle toward her and "intentionally striking her leg," causing a minor injury. The driver then fled in a blue Tesla. An Anne Arundel County police officer was nearby and was able to note the license plate number of the vehicle. Hernandez was charged with an arrest warrant, which was later served.
