Maryland State Police believe weather contributed to a multi-vehicle pileup that occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. Monday.
GLEN BURNIE, MD — Police believe the weather contributed to a multi-vehicle pileup that occurred early Monday morning near Glen Burnie. Eleven vehicles were involved in four separate crashes in the westbound lanes of I-695 at MD-295. At the time, light rain was falling, fog was prevalent and low visibility was a concern.
Maryland State Police reported that the first crash occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. and involved two vehicles. Moments later, the next crash involved three vehicles trying to slow down in time to stop for the initial crash, which subsequently lead to a chain reaction of two additional crashes.
Two people were transported to area hospitals. Other drivers and passengers from the vehicles involved remained on the scene and were uninjured. State police from the Glen Burnie Barrack responded to the scene along with the Anne Arundel County Police Department and county fire/EMS. The investigation is continuing.
