The will sponsor their 4th Annual GBIA 5K and One-Mile Fun Walk on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the GBIA Carnival Grounds beginning at 9 a.m.
Initially created as part of the association's Centennial Celebration in 2008, this event has steadily grown in size each year. Because of the wide age range of participants, trophies are awarded in several categories. Advance registration is strongly encouraged, as an Early Registration Discount is available.
The race will begin at the Glen Burnie Carnival Grounds (in the rear of 19 Crain Highway South) near the Glen Burnie Parking Garage and follow the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail to Norfolk Road, where runners will turn around and run back to the GBIA building. A variety of health care practitioners and wellness groups will be on hand throughout the event to provide educational displays and information. A variety of healthy snacks and drinks will be available to participants upon their return to the Carnival Grounds.

"We've been very impressed by the diversity of those who participate" said chairman Rick Biagiotti. "The seasoned runner, young children being introduced to an active way of life and those trying incorporate a healthy lifestyle in to their daily routine."
In addition, the County Health Department will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to offer flu-shots and flu-mist. Vaccines will be free, but donations are appreciated. It is preferred that people wear short sleeves or shirts with loose sleeves that can be easily rolled up. Children getting shots should be accompanied by their parent or guardian.
