Fire Causes Evacuation Of Glen Burnie Apartment: Officials

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A fire in an electric dryer prompted the evacuation of an apartment complex at 8067 Green Orchard Road in Glen Burnie Monday afternoon. The fire caused an estimated $17,000 damage. A resident at the apartment complex discovered the fire in a utility closet located in the apartment's kitchen before the smoke alarms sounded. Building maintenance personnel activated the central alarm system in order to evacuate the rest of the building.
Firefighters found smoke and fire coming out of the windows of a second-floor apartment. More than 40 firefighters from two departments battled the fire for 20 minutes. One adult resident was displaced and is being assisted by the Red Cross. Other tenants were displaced due to water damage.
