Hello and Happy 4th of July everybody! It's me, Michele, your host of the Glen Burnie Daily. Here's all the community news you need to know right now.


First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and less humid. High: 85 Low: 69.


Here are the top stories in Glen Burnie today:

  1. Come out and declare your independence this July 4th. Watching the night sky fill with "bombs bursting in air". Find fireworks near Glen Burnie. (Patch)
  2. Same bar, different shooting at Clauss Liquor and Bar. Thursday, June 30 at about 9:15 p.m., police were called for a shooting. The suspect and victim had a verbal argument that turned violent. The victim was shot in the torso and sustained severe but non-life threatening injuries. (News Break)
  3. July 1 was when the "No Discharge Zone" that was designated for 13 bodies of water in the county, took affect. This was decided by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), along with the Severn River Association, Anne Arundel County, and the City of Annapolis.   • Today is "Independence Day" and "Alice In Wonderland Day". Today is a day to celebrate your freedom to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! And being Alice in Wonderland day just adds to the awesomeness of the day. (Holidays and Observations)
  • Francis Scott Key was a Lawyer, writer and poet from Frederick, Md. Key was so inspired by the American Flag still flying after an attack on Fort McHenry that he wrote the poem named "Defiance of Fort McHenty". The title was eventually changed to the "Star Spangled Banner". Over time this was set to music and became our National Anthem. (Francis Scott Key)
