Follow the Yellow. . . Corn Road?

Maryland Sunrise Farm's corn maze theme this year is the Wizard of Oz.

The words “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” have been blazed above Maryland Sunrise Farm’s eight-acre corn maze this year.

The theme of the Gambrills maze celebrates the 75th anniversary of the movie “The Wizard of Oz,” according to Capital Gazette.

This year’s maze is much more difficult to navigate than last year’s, Joey Leister, 17, of Odenton, whose job is to retrieve the lost, told the news outlet.

Not only is the 2014 corn maze more difficult, Maryland Sunrise farm has also challenged participants to find the “Ghama Traya” in the maze, inspired by local author Kaye Giuliani who was present for a book signing on opening weekend.

Giuliani’s book revolves around a high school student who finds a portal -- the Ghama Traya -- that takes her to alternate worlds, the Capital Gazette reports.

Other festivities at the farm this year include a magic show that begins at 1 p.m. every day, pedal karts, a kids playhouse, tire fun and a giant beachball.

The maze, located at 100 Dairy Lane, Gambrills, is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. by appointment. The last tickets will be sold at 6:15 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults 13 and older, $9 for individuals with a military ID, $8 for groups of more than 10, and $5 for children ages 3 to 12. Kids 2 and under enter for free. Admissions includes access to the maze, log cabin building, a hay jump and corn hole.

Children under 13 must be accompanied by someone 16 and older inside the maze.

Here are some tips from Maryland Sunrise Farm:

  • You’re walking in a field with uneven footing and coarse grass; wear sturdy shoes, no open toes, no flip flops, no high heels and watch where you step.
  • Use sunscreen and remember your favorite hat.
  • Stay hydrated; drinks are available for purchase onsite.
  • If you need to exit the Corn Maze before finishing the official trail, consult your map for the nearest opening leading to the outside edge of the field.
  • Allergic to straw? Don’t take the Haywagon tour of the farm.
  • Come with an attitude of consideration for others and a sense of adventure!
  • Allow about 45 minutes for the maze long route and 20 minutes for the shorter version.
