Resident Displaced, 2 Firefighters Hospitalized In Glen Burnie House Blaze: Officials

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A Glen Burnie house blaze displaced one resident and temporarily hospitalized two firefighters on Sunday, officials announced. Authorities estimated that the flames caused $90,000 in damage.

The cause is still under investigation. Officials don't know if the home had functioning smoke detectors.

Occupants and neighbors reported the fire in the 200 block of Sunset Drive around 11:14 a.m. The five occupants escaped safely before firefighters arrived, a press release said. First responders found flames coming from every first-floor window of the two-story, single-family home.

Authorities said a team of 34 controlled the blaze, which started in the living room, in about an hour.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department thanked the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Fire & Rescue Department for its help.

Officials said medics took the injured firefighters to the burn unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. Doctors treated and released the duo after their minor burns.

The American Red Cross Southern Maryland Chapter is assisting the resident who was displaced, the release said.

Baltimore Gas and Electric also responded.
