Glen Burnie Crushes North County, 70-44
In boys' basketball, the Gophers take an early lead and cruise to victory.
Larry Mike scored 26 points and added six steals Friday as host (14-3, 11-3 league) dominated (8-13, 5-9 league) 70-44.
The Gophers scored the first nine points in the game, holding the Knights without a point until the 4:52 mark in the first quarter, and followed that up with a 17-2 third-quarter run and then a 15-0 run to start the final quarter. The two second half runs largely were on the back of Mike, who netted 20 of his 26 points after the break.
Mike topped the 20-point mark for his fourth consecutive game.

“He’s playing as well as anyone in the county right now,” said Glen Burnie Head Coach Mike Rudd.

“The transition game is our strength,” Rudd said. “And we really ran our break well. Plus, these guys are unselfish—they’ll make the extra pass.”
The Gophers now face two more home games in the regular season before starting the playoffs, and the team has begun to focus on the postseason.
“This was a good bounce-back win after a tough loss to Arundel [58-55],” Rudd said. “But now we’re just trying to get ready for the playoffs. The real season starts in two games.”
Heading into the postseason, Glen Burnie finds itself in a bottleneck with Broadneck, Arundel and Annapolis, fighting for seeding position.
Glen Burnie’s Jamar Kane scored 10 and Clarence Watkins chipped in eight in the victory, while Matthew Baker led the Knights with 15 points.
