GLEN BURNIE, MD — Officials announced that a Glen Burnie house blaze displaced six residents and hospitalized a firefighter on Monday. Doctors expect the first responder to survive.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire, which started on the first floor. They did not estimate how much damage the flames caused. Officials also don't know if the home had functioning smoke detectors.

Neighbors called 911 around 10:36 a.m. to report the blaze as the four occupants evacuated safely. Crews said they found fire throughout the first and second floors of the house in the 200 block of Vernon Avenue. A team of 42 controlled the scene at the 1.5-story, single-family home in about an hour.
