ODENTON, MD — A skater dressed all in black suffered serious head trauma after he was hit by a car in the middle of the night while skateboarding on a county road.

Anne Arundel County Police say Ramon Doral Taylor, 23, of 6400 block of Freedom Drive in Glen Burnie was struck by a 2004 Lexus about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses said Taylor was skateboarding in the lanes of westbound Route 175 when he was struck by the Lexus.

Investigators say Taylor made a purchase at the Royal Farm Store located on Route 175 and Blue Water Boulevard. After leaving the store the black-clad skater went west on Route 175 traveling in the left lane. Taylor was struck by a car driven by Eugene A. Stewart, 39, of 1000 block of Parkridge Circle in Crofton.

Due to the characteristics of the sidewalk in that area, police believe Taylor chose to skateboard in the street.

The victim suffered head trauma and multiple fractures, and was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in serious condition. Stewart was not hurt.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be pedestrian error, police say.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor on the part of the Lexus driver in this crash.
