Glen Burnie Woman Posing As Tax Preparer Faces Fines: Official
Tarsha T. Warren, 48, has been convicted on two counts of filing a false income tax return after pretending to be a licensed tax preparer.
GLEN BURNIE, MD — A 48-year-old Glen Burnie woman has been convicted on two counts of filing a false income tax return. Tarsha T. Warren has been sentenced to 12 months in jail, all suspended, and three years of probation. As a condition of her probation, Warren is prohibited from acting as a tax preparer. She also was ordered to pay $37,985 in restitution.
For two years, Warren, who was not a registered tax preparer in Maryland, prepared and filed state income tax returns for a fee on behalf of numerous Maryland residents. Many of the Maryland tax returns Warren filed on behalf of her clients included false information, which reduced their Maryland tax liabilities and improperly increased their state tax refunds by $37,985.
The case was investigated by the Comptroller of Maryland’s Field Enforcement Bureau and prosecuted by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.
