Glen Burnie Woman Recovering From Surgery Wins $50,004 Prize

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A Glen Burnie wedding coordinator was resting and recovering from surgery last week when her big Maryland Lottery magic moment happened. Her Bonus Match 5 numbers matched all of the winning numbers in the New Year’s Day drawing, giving her a $50,000 top prize plus $4 for two sets of two winning numbers, according to a news release.

Her day started calmly enough. The 64-year-old had bought a ticket for four drawings spanning Dec. 29-Jan. 1. Sinking into a recliner for a rest, she and her boyfriend began to check the $24 ticket purchased from Wilkens Liquors in Baltimore. The two $2 matches showed up at the top of the ticket while her big win appeared on line 7.

The Anne Arundel County resident told Maryland Lottery officials her plans for the windfall might include buying a new vehicle.

Wilkens Liquors located at 4626 Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize ticket in the game.
