Man Charged With Murder In Convenience Store Assault: Police

A 59-year-old Glen Burnie man's manner of death has been ruled a homicide. Police have arrested the suspect in his death.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A state medical examiner's report has ruled an Anne Arundel County man's cause of death as a blunt force head injury with associated complications and the manner being homicide. Because of this Oct. 18 autopsy result, a suspect in 59-year-old Karl Shurger's death has been arrested. Tiwand McClary Jr. of Glen Burnie has been charged with manslaughter and second degree assault.

The incident dates back to Sept. 18 when witnesses reported seeing McClary of Glen Burnie climb out of a car and punch Shurger in the face. The blow knocked Shurger to the ground and McClary struck him in the head again, police reported. By the time police arrived, McClary had already fled the scene. Nine days later, Shuger died at the hospital.

During interviews with police, McClary said he and Shuger had argued inside a convenience store prior to the assault. While Shuger walked away from the store, McClary followed him in his car and admitted to punching him, WBFF reported.
