CURTIS BAY, MD — A man impersonating a police officer sexually assaulted a woman Thursday in Curtis Bay, authorities said. The victim eventually escaped, and police are still looking for the suspect.

Officers said the woman was stopped at an undisclosed location around 2:25 a.m. by an unmarked SUV with solid, nonflashing, red and blue overhead lights. A man dressed in an unknown police or security uniform instructed the victim to get out of her vehicle under the suspicion of impaired driving.

The suspect then conducted a full pat-down on the woman's body, authorities said. The victim demanded that a female police officer come to the scene.

The unknown male told the woman that everything would be "forgotten" if she performed a sexual act in his car, the press release said. The victim then got back into her own vehicle and drove away.

Police described the suspect as a white man who stands 6 feet and 2 inches tall and drives a Black Ford SUV with a spotlight. Officers estimated that he is about 25 years old and weighs around 200 pounds.

Authorities said his uniform was different than those worn members of local police agencies. The woman reported that his belt also looked different and that he did not have a portable radio, a body-worn camera or an outer vest.

Detectives asked anybody with information to call (410) 222-6145. Tipsters can stay anonymous by dialing (410) 222-4700.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department urged anybody urged anybody suspicious of a vehicle that is pulling them over to immediately call 911 and drive to a populated area or a police station. The dispatcher will determine if the stop is real and tell the caller what to do next.
