Names of Pedestrian, Driver in Fatal Accident Released
A Glen Burnie man trying to cross Ritchie Highway outside a crosswalk died after he was hit by a car Sunday, police say.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Investigators have released the name of the Glen Burnie pedestrian and driver involved in a fatal accident Sunday afternoon,
Anne Arundel County Police say Gary Lee Collins Jr., 45, of the 900 block of Genine Drive in Glen Burnie died about 1:40 p.m. He was hit by a vehicle while crossing Ritchie Highway northbound near Warfield Road in Glen Burnie.
Witnesses reported a 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by Gary Alan Williams, 52, of the 200 block of Juneberry Way in Glen Burnie was northbound when it struck Collins just over the crest of a hill in the road.

Collins was declared dead by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel at the scene and his body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore for autopsy.
Williams was not injured in the crash.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be Collins not yielding to vehicular traffic while crossing the road outside of a crosswalk, authorities say.
Police say neither speed nor alcohol appears to be involved. Any charges are pending review by the Anne Arundel County state’s attorney.
