Officials Identify Armed Man Fatally Shot By Police In Glen Burnie Home
Authorities identified the armed man who was fatally shot by police in a Glen Burnie home. Officers also found the suspect's mother dead.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Officials on Tuesday released the name of an armed man who was fatally shot by police this weekend in Glen Burnie. Authorities identified him as Digno Ramon Yorro Jr. Officers also found Yorro's mother dead upon arrival.
"This is a very traumatic scene for everyone involved," Anne Arundel County Police Chief Amal Awad said at a press conference. "It's horrible that it occurred over the holidays. That is never acceptable during any time of the year, but it's particularly more disturbing during the holidays."
The stand-off started Sunday around 1:30 p.m. when a woman told 911 that a male family member armed with a knife chased her out of a townhome. The caller also reported that she could not find a woman who lived in the home, located in the 1400 block of Braden Loop. Police knocked on the door several times with no response before forcing their way in and finding Yorro with a knife.

Officers said they ordered Yorro to drop the weapon multiple times, but the suspect did not comply. A first responder then shot Yorro with several bean-bag shotgun rounds and tased him, but neither method was successful.
Yorro next approached police while still holding the knife. Officials said that's when Cpl. J. Burger shot the suspect multiple times with his duty gun. Medics pronounced Yorro dead on the scene.

"These are difficult incidents to have to, one, manage but, two, make critical, split-second decisions," Awad said, offering her prayers to everybody involved. "These are very difficult calls."
Authorities searched the house and found the body of Yorro's mother in the garage. Investigators said she suffered physical trauma, but they did not specify the cause or manner of her death.
In accordance with state law, Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh's Office launched a review of this officer-involved shooting. Frosh's Independent Investigations Division will handle the case from here.
The officers' body cameras were active during the encounter. Frosh's team usually releases this footage within 14 days. That timeframe could be extended if additional interviews are needed, if identities must be redacted or if the family hasn't yet seen the tape.
Burger has worked for the Anne Arundel County Police Department for 6 years. He is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol.
