She married her husband, John A. Schimoler, in 1988; he died in 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi, and her son, J. Gunnar, among other family members.
A GoFundMe page has raised $6,350 for the Schimoler children as of Wednesday.

The page author wrote of Jane:
“She fought the disease with strength, courage and an amazing grace that was to be admired. The doctors told her four years ago that she had three months to live and she proved them all wrong.
She did not want to leave her beautiful children without their mother after their father passed away suddenly just two years (ago). Heidi and Gunnar are the most beautiful blessings and they are Jane and John’s legacy.
As parents, they chose to surround their children with amazing friends and a strong family bond. Now, it’s up to us to wrap our arms around Heidi and Gunnar and guide them as their parents would have wanted.”
Patch readers also shared their memories of Schimoler.
Julie Horner Harris wrote on the Edgewater Patch Facebook page, “Jane was a very kind, sweet, positive person. She will be missed. Prayers to her family.”
And Jenni Suit Beck said Schimoler was her hero. “She fought like a warrior to the very end. Wonderful mother, neighbor, friend. Rest in peace sweet Jane.”
