Pedestrian Dies Trying To Remove Debris From Highway: Officials

A man who stopped on I-695 to pick up an appliance that fell off his struck was fatally struck by an SUV, fire officials say.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A man died Friday afternoon as he was walking on eastbound I-695 near Ritchie Highway, say Anne Arundel County Fire officials. The fatal pedestrian accident was reported at 12:38 p.m.

Witnesses told first responders that an SUV struck the man while he was trying to remove an appliance that had fallen off his truck onto the roadway.

Paramedics declared the man, estimated to be in his 50s, dead on the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the man's name or hometown, or said if the striking vehicle has been found.
