As a veteran Coast Guard Officer one of the biggest concerns on my daily routine was the safety of the public in open waters. There were countless times where I would have to create search patterns or reroute search and rescue teams to assist in aiding those who were in danger because they decided not to wear a life jacket while on open water. Having transitioned into an Insurance Agent in Hanover, MD. the concern still remains. My focus, however, is redirected on the safety of children, teens, and adults when it comes to pool safety whether it is at home or at your local community pool. We need to stay vigilant and be aware of the dangers while enjoying the simple activity of swimming or relaxing at a pool. Over 200 children drown in backyard swimming pools each year and the number is not decreasing. We as a community can help reduce these risks in our area by following a few basic steps. Below you will find a links discussing some ways you can be vigilant with your home pools. Having a decent insurance plan, Basic pool protections, house safety rules, and insuring those that go in to the pool know how to swim are some starting points on making sure you are adequately protected. I hope everyone enjoys their summer and feel free to check out my other posts on grilling safety.
