Scratch-Off Gives Glen Burnie Man $10,000 Birthday Gift
A Glen Burnie couple will celebrate a $10K lottery birthday win by adding a deck to their house and sharing the loot with their daughters.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — After turning 50 years old just a little over a week ago, Douglas “Kurt” Hohenberger of Glen Burnie received one of the best belated birthday gifts ever. His special gift came in the form of cold hard cash when he won $10,000 playing a 100X the Cash scratch-off.
The Anne Arundel County man was running an errand for his mother when he found his lucky scratch-off. Kurt added a $20 instant ticket to his purchase of bread and milk from Pops Grocery and Deli located at 7459 East Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie.
“As I started scratching the ticket in the parking lot of the store, I immediately noticed that my winning number had several matches,” Kurt said. “I knew I had won something but I hadn’t scratched the whole ticket yet. Once I realized it was $10,000, I was in total shock.”

He said that he and his wife of 28 years, Jolene, have wanted to add a deck to the house they purchased a few years back. “One of the first things he said to me was, ‘I think we can get that deck now,’ ” said Jolene. “We’re just ecstatic about this win. We’ll be able to do so many good things with this money.”
The parents of two adult daughters also plan to share some of the prize with them. “They turned out to be such good young women that we’d like to show them how much we love and appreciate them by giving them a few hundred dollars too,” Kurt said.
