SECU AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO 13 MARYLAND STATE EMPLOYEES, FAMILY MEMBERS
SECU – Maryland's largest credit union – is awarding scholarships to 13 students as part of its annual State Employee Scholarship Program.
SECU – Maryland’s largest credit union – will award scholarships to 13 Maryland State employees and their immediate family members at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, June 11, 4 p.m., at the SECU Arena at Towson University.
The scholarships are part of SECU’s annual State Employee Scholarship Program. Since 2007, SECU has awarded nearly $250,000 in scholarships to Maryland State employees and immediate family members planning to attend college, graduate school, or trade school in the fall.
“The State Employee Scholarship Program represents an essential part of SECU’s continuing commitment to make both financial and scholastic education available to our members,” says Peggy Young, Vice President of Marketing at SECU. “Doing so enables the communities we serve throughout Maryland to become stronger and financially healthier, one member and one household at a time.”

As in past years, 2015 scholarship amounts are based on submission of a graded essay or video. This year, applicants were required to submit an essay or video that explains what they believe to be the difference between credit unions and banks, the benefits of being a member of a credit union rather than a bank customer, and how a credit union can make a difference in their financial futures.
SECU received a total of 120 essays and videos from students. Ten essay submissions and three video submissions were awarded scholarships.
To be eligible for SECU’s State Employee Scholarship Program, applicants must be Maryland State employees or members of the immediate families of Maryland State employees. Winners must be enrolled or accepted into a college, university, trade, or technical school. Twelfth graders who plan to attend college next fall are also eligible.
