GLEN BURNIE, MD — A man tried to strangle an employee at a Glen Burnie store when the worker stepped in to thwart the shoplifter, Anne Arundel County Police said.

Police received a report of shoplifting and first-degree assault about 5 p.m. Wednesday at Roses Discount Store, 7387 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd.

Investigators said a man tried to steal items from the store, was confronted by an employee, who was then choked around the neck by the thief. A second employee intervened to stop the assault.

The suspect ran away before police arrived.

The man wore a face mask and hat; he was described as about 5-feet 5-inches tall and weighs 130 pounds.
