Swimmers, Kayakers Can Use Stoney Creek Again After Ban Lifted

A recreational water advisory banning direct water contact in Stoney Creek near Glen Burnie has been lifted effective Wednesday.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — The recreational water advisory banning swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and other direct water contact for Elizabeths Landing, Lombardee Beach and Sunset Beach on Stoney Creek has been lifted effective Wednesday afternoon.

The advisory was issued over the weekend due to a 6,500-gallon wastewater spill on May 23 caused by a force main break on Nabbs Creek Road in Glen Burnie. Water sample results collected from Stoney Creek at Sunset Beach and Elizabeths Landing show bacterial levels acceptable for swimming and other direct water contact starting May 26.
