Here are the top stories in Glen Burnie today:

  1. A gunman took a gun to an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The 18-year-old shooter has killed 19 students and 2 teachers. Prior to the school massacre, the gunman killed his grandmother. A reason is unknown at this moment. (WBAL 11) An increase of police presence was seen at Anne Arundel County schools today. No need to worry, there wasn't any threat to any of the area schools. This was to offer support in response to the Texas school shooting. (Shore News Network)
  2. Reports of shots fired were called in on Tuesday near University of Maryland College Park. Police were unable to locate a shooter. No injuries were reported. (WJLA)
  3. A house on Duvall Highway in Pasadena caught fire Tuesday. Luckily, no one was home and no injuries reported due to the fire. The occupants of the home are now displaced. A cause for the fire is unknown at this time. (Facebook)

Today in Glen Burnie:

  • Anne Arundel Community College is celebrating the 2022 Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Please help us send a huge congratulations to the graduates. (A.A.C.C)
  • Family Mindfulness Class is tonight from 7-8 p.m. Families will participate in games, creative activities, scientific mini-lessons, discussion, and breath work. Adults and kids ages 6-10 years of age are welcome. (Severna Park Library)
  • Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre presents the "Rock of Ages." This event starts tonight and runs through June 18. This is a story that takes place in the late 1980s and the tale is as big as the hair was! Come see the show starting each night at 8:30 p.m. (Rock of Ages)

From my notebook:

  • Today is "National Paper Airplane Day" and "World Red Head Day." Does anyone make paper airplanes anymore? I hope so! And being a red head myself, I plan on enjoying the day! Click to see what else is being celebrated today. (Holidays and Observations)
  • Are there red heads in Maryland? Of course there are! The "redhead" duck that is! The redhead is a medium sized diving duck. This duck visits the Chesapeake Bay during its winter migration to Texas and Mexico. (Chesapeake Bay)
  • I am thrilled to learn that in March "The World's Largest Paper Plane Competition" took flight at Power Plant Live. The planes are judged in three categories: distance, airtime and aerobatics. Red Bull Paper Wings World Final is in Austria. This is where the 2022 world champions will be crowned. (WBAL 11)
