Annapolis Recreation & Parks 9th Annual Truxton Youth Triathlon, Sun., June 21
Volunteers are being sought to help with managing the event on race day in a variety of positions. Setup starts at 6:00 a.m. and the race starts at 8:00 am on Sunday, Jun. 21, 2015 at Truxton Park in Annapolis. Youth, ages 7–17 will challenge themselves in this Swim, Bike, Run event at Truxton Park. SWIM in the Truxton Park Pool; BIKE through City parks and adjoining roads; RUN through Truxton’s trails. All participants will receive a medal for completing the race. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finisher in each age group. The Truxtun Youth Triathlon is part of the Maryland youth Triathlon Series. Participants go to http://www.annapolis.gov/recreation to register. AA County Office of Emergency Management CERT Training, April 24-26
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. The public is invited to attend the upcoming CERT training:
· 7-9 pm, Fri., April 24, 8 am–5 pm, Sat., April 25, and 8 am–5 pm, Sun., April 25, Basic CERT Training: Anne Arundel County and City of Annapolis Citizen Corps Council and CERT announce the first BASIC CERT class of 2015. The class will be onApril 24-26, 2015, at the AA County Fire Dept. Training Academy, 415 Maxwell Frye Road Millersville, Maryland 21108. Participants are expected to attend the full, 20-hour course given over all three days–April 24-26. There is a cost of $35 per person for supplies. Protective footwear (Steel toed boots recommended) are required forSaturday and Sunday. Comcast Cares Lake Waterford Save the Bay Day, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon, Sat., April 25
Lake Waterford Park Save the Bay Day - Help to control storm-water runoff by planting native plants, weeding and raking garden areas, cleaning up underbrush, trash and other debris from Lake Waterford Park. Volunteers will also work on the Adaptive Playground and will make it safer for children through the spreading of soft wood fiber to cover the 100 cubic yard area. Any special instructions, wear work clothes and closed toe shoes. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and work gloves and gardening tools. Mark your name on your tools. Hope For All
Hope for All. is an all-volunteer non-profit Christian ministry serving families in need in the north AA County, Baltimore City areas and also the Appalachian region by collecting and distributing donated school supplies, household goods and furniture, and clothing. There is a great need for volunteers at Warehouse 146 which is normally open every Tues.–Thurs. from 9:30 am–3:00 pm for volunteers to sort clothes, for cleaning, helping in the yard sale area, or anything else that needs to get done. Call the warehouse at 410-766-0372before coming. There is also a pressing need for donations of select furniture, household and linen items, clothing, and cleaning & toiletry items. Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts
Maryland Hall is planning an April Volunteer Orientation with positions open in ONLY for Volunteer Ushers for performing arts events at this time. We welcome your interest in this opportunity; please plan to attend both the Orientation and one Usher Training. If you are unable to attend these dates, we will be offering orientations and usher trainings dates in August. National Electronics Museum
The museum near BWI Airport serves students and the general public by collection, preservation and display of significant artifacts and literature and the commemoration of the creativity and dedication of pioneers and workers in the field of electronics. Volunteers, age 18 and up, are needed week days and weekends for education and outreach, for special events, as an administrative assistant, as collections assistants, and for visitor services. · 9am - 1pm, Saturday, April 11, 2015, Robotics Workshop: As part of National Robot Week the National Electronics Museum is offering our annual Robot Building Workshop. The workshop is available for anyone 12 years or older. Participants will learn how to solder while building and programming their own robot. · Thursday, Apr. 23, Take Your Child to Work Day: To celebrate Take Your Child to Work Day, the National Electronics Museum provides a day full of events related to the field of engineering, with a focus on military defense equipment. Activities and handouts are provided through out the museum. On the fourthThursday in April, bring your entire family to learn about the field of engineering!
· 10 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Sat., April 25, Robot Fest: Robot Fest is an annual event for anyone interested in the creative use of technology. We welcome all roboticists, hackers, artists, hobbyists and makers of any age who have the unquenchable urge to develop and create new, previously unseen forms from lifeless electronics, fabrics and mechanical parts. Success in Style
Success in Style is a nonprofit which helps disadvantaged men and women find employment by providing interview appropriate attire at no cost. Adult volunteer consultants are needed at two Glen Burnie locations (District Courthouse and Glen Burnie Mall) to help find appropriate well-fitting attire from our inventory. In addition, adult Volunteers are needed as retail support to help customers with selections, stock and merchandise inventory, and customer checks. Training will be provided.
