Weekend Traffic Alert: Construction Continues on MD 2

Plan ahead for traffic in Edgewater beginning Friday night.

Give yourself some extra time to commute this weekend as construction continues at the intersection of MD 2 (Solomons Island Road) and MD 214 (Central Avenue) in Edgewater.

Construction began last weekend and will pick up again Friday night at 9 p.m.

The Maryland State Highway Administration is resurfacing the concrete with “whitetopping” on the two through lanes of southbound MD 2, approaching the MD 214 intersection.

The two lanes of southbound MD 2 will be closed and reopen no later than 5 a.m. Monday morning. In the meantime, plan ahead and use alternate routes such as Pike Ridge Road and Mayo Road (MD 253).

Traffic on Southbound MD 2 will not be able to make right turns onto MD 214 at the intersection. A short detour will be in place for cars heading in that direction. Drivers should follow the detour signs using Pike Ridge road.
